New SIP investors in mutual funds are beginning to worry as most fund schemes continue to be in the red. One study showed 78 of 137 equity funds logged average losses of 1.5 per cent in last two years. The loss is higher in midcap and smallcap funds at 6 per cent, while largecap funds are up about 1.5 per cent. While old investors are not disturbed by this volatility, new investors who came in after seeing the returns of 2016 and 2017 are feeling the pinch.
