Even if RBI softens its policy stance or cuts interest rate today, expect bank fixed deposit rates to rise soon. Rating company Crisil estimates domestic banks will have to raise about Rs 20 lakh crore fresh deposits over the two years to meet credit growth of 13-14% on average. That would be well above the average annual deposit mobilisation of around Rs 7 lakh crore over the past few years. It would put upward pressure on the interest rates bank offer on deposits, the rating company said. That should be good news for savers.
