A Sebi discussion paper released in January proposes to introduce circuit filters for scrips that are traded in the derivatives market. Sebi offers two options: to put in place hard circuit filters which would be triggered if any scrip moves over 20% either way, or to introduce a combination of dynamic and fixed price bands or a call auction mechanism. Investors, including FPIs, feel such a move would induce more volatility and distort market equilibrium. Some say Sebi should first do an impact study to understand how it would impact F&O stocks. It will be interesting to see how the market regulator deals with the issue.
