RBI's Monetary Policy Committee did deliver what markets had ordered, but it confined itself to routine tinkering of rates, guided by its mandate to contain inflation. The 25 basis points rate cut was neither here nor there, when it comes to addressing the fund crunch faced by builders and infrastructure players, who depend on short-term financing from NBFCs. By doing that, the central bank actually lobbed the ball into government's court. That explains why the money policy did not go down well with D-Street.
