Sebi's rejection of L&T buyback proposal in January on the grounds that the group's consolidated debt-to-equity ratio would cross two times the paid-up capital and reserves after the buyback has led to a policy overhaul. The market regulator is seeking to effect a policy rejig under which large companies looking to buy back shares may have to factor in consolidated group debt in calculations.
