While exit polls have predicted an easy return to power for NDA, and at least three of them gave BJP a majority on its own, there were wide variations in projections for UP and Bengal, making the numbers less reliable. While the polls gave an edge to NDA over the SP-BSP combine, there were noticeable variations with only one giving the grand alliance a clear win at 56 seats, while most others projected 44 to 68 seats for NDA. In Bengal, some of the polls projected a sizeable gain for BJP while others indicated continuing dominance of Trinamool Congress.
