Sebi is finally questioning the loan extention agreements between fund houses and debt-stressed companies. In separate show-cause notices to HDFC Mutual Fund and Kotak Mutual Fund, the market regulator has sought details of the terms of their investments in Essel Group's debt securities. The two fund houses had to delay redemptions to investors even on maturity because of the arrangement, badly denting investor confidence. Will Sebi come hard on the fund houses now?
